NNCC Statement on COVID-19

Mar 19, 2020 | COVID News |

On March 11, 2020 the World Health Organization declared coronavirus (COVID-19) a global pandemic. As the nation's most trusted profession and the largest sector of the healthcare workforce, nurses are on the front lines of patient care every day. Americans rely on and trust nurses to keep them healthy, safe, and informed. In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, the importance and vitality of the nursing workforce is more evident than ever.

The National Nurse-Led Care Consortium (NNCC) continues to support nurses on the front lines of care amidst COVID-19. Our innovative nurse home visitors and community health workers are optimizing telecommunications to continue to provide much needed support to our families across Philadelphia. As we continue to provide services, we are ensuring extra preventive and precautionary measures are in place based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our AmeriCorps members are working to support programming while mitigating their risk of exposure. NNCC’s Training and Technical Assistance team is coordinating with subject matter experts across the country to develop virtual content addressing the provision of essential services to our nation’s most vulnerable. NNCC supports ongoing efforts to mitigate the rapid spread of COVID-19 and will continue to share resource updates to support our constituents and stakeholders.

Nurses serve as a critical connection between compassionate and evidence-based healthcare. Now more than ever, nursing principles must be central to community and legislative responses to COVID-19, as economic security, stable housing, access to healthcare, racial equity, and a strong social safety net are essential to curbing the effects of the pandemic. As nurses have for decades, NNCC will continue to provide programming and advocate for policies that center community health and the needs of our nation's most vulnerable people.
