Preventive care and other early intervention services help people stay healthy and avoid more costly care. Good oral health has an effect on your functionality in many ways, from the way you communicate to your self-image. Poor dental health can have an effect on overall health. Many determinants impact our oral health, including challenges in accessing dental care and strategies to overcome barriers to care that can help address oral health disparities and promote overall health equity.
The National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) and the National Nurse-Led Care Consortium (NNCC) will host a webinar discussing promising practices to increase access to oral health care for residents of public housing with a focus on clinical tools and other ways to support dental health access. This webinar will feature Dr. Irene Hilton, NNOHA's dental consultant and staff dentist at the San Francisco Department of Health, and Lorenza Hois, dental hygienist at the North Side Christian Health Center in Pitsburgh. Participants will learn how North Side Christian implemented mobile dentistry programs and engaged medical team members and health center leadership. Participants will also walk away with an understanding of how care teams can support oral health education and treatment and strategies for the integration of oral health into primary care at health centers serving residents of public housing and other special populations.
