The Significance of Cultural Intelligence in Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy Rooted in Historic and Systemic Racism

Cultural intelligence (CQ) is foundational to understanding the origins of perspective and how to move beyond individual perspective to a more global purview. This session addresses the implications for applying cultural intelligence to understanding the impact of historic and systemic racism on vaccine hesitancy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and analyze the relationships between CQ application and advancing health equity
  2. Discuss the significance and impact of structural racism on vaccine hesitancy
  3. Apply CQ strategies that may reduce the impact of implicit bias on health outcomes and interprofessional relationships

About the speaker: Angela Richard-Eaglin, DNP, MSN, FNP-BC, CNE, FAANP, Associate Dean for Equity, Associate Professor, Yale School of Nursing Angela Richard-Eaglin is the Associate Dean for Equity at the Yale School of Nursing. She is a champion for expanding diversity and inspiring cultural intelligence and cultural humility in health care organizations, health professions education programs, and in clinical practice. Her nursing career has been dedicated to promoting and advancing equity among under-represented, marginalized, stigmatized, and financially burdened populations.
