    As the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is emerging as a serious public health problem in tandem with the opioid epidemic, health centers have the opportunity to decrease its impact with standardized screening, linkage to care and treatment protocols. This case study highlights how five health centers nationally are addressing the increased rates of HCV infection and its intersection with the opioid epidemic.

This document is to be used as a guide for the development of a health center emergency operations plan, or EOP. Health centers should modify suggested language, policies, and/or protocols to reflect current operations and organizational approaches to the EM program’s structure and ongoing maintenance. It must be reviewed and updated annually, or as needed following exercises, real incidents, or policy and procedure changes to ensure compliance with the November 2016 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Emergency Preparedness (EP) Final Rule, and the 2022 CMS Omnibus Burden Reduction Final Rule (including revisions to CMS EP Final Rule of 2016).
