NNCC and the National Center for Health in Public Housing (NCHPH) partnered with HUD's Office on Healthy Housing and Lead Hazard Control and presented a two-part webinar series on radon exposure and its impact on residents of public housing.
Radon - a colorless radioactive gas - poses significant health risks, particularly as a leading cause of lung cancer. Residents of public housing face unique environmental challenges due to structural vulnerabilities in older buildings, compounding existing health disparities and barriers to care.
This session covered radon's health risks, public housing testing methods, and prevention strategies. It focused on educating patients, fostering partnerships between health centers and community organizations, and developing radon-related protocols. Additionally, it assessed the long-term health impact of radon awareness in vulnerable communities.
