Philly SPROUT's How to Support Families from a Trauma-Informed Lens

Jul 24, 2025  02:56 PM  EST | Past Webinars |

NNCC and Joseph J. Peters Institute (JJPI) had our second virtual training of the year for the Philly SPROUT (Supporting Parenting Relationships through Outreach, Understanding & Training) Project where we discussed trauma, its impact, and practices to support families in crisis.  This training session featured two speakers, Sarah Leaman, Family Support Specialist, and Chou Hallegra, Program Manager, who supports the Philadelphia Family Support Projects at Vision for Equality.

Being a caregiver of a child with disabilities, while deeply rewarding experience, can be incredibly stressful. Extreme or prolonged stress can lead to trauma. As professionals supporting families, a strong understanding of trauma and its impact is crucial for providing effective and compassionate care. Working effectively with families requires building trust, validating emotions, fostering collaboration, and more.
