Navigating the Complexity of Minor Consent Within Your Health Center

This session covers requirements for providing general medical and other treatment to minors. Scenarios covered will include:

  • When minors are permitted to consent for their own treatment without parent or guardian approval
  • When minors present for treatment, which they cannot consent to on their own, without a parent or guardian present
  • When minors present for treatment, which they cannot consent to on their own, with an adult who is not a parent or guardian present
  • Other similar scenarios

The session covers when it is permitted to provide treatment in these situations and what documentation will be required. Also discussed is when it is and is not permissible to share visit information with parents or guardians. The intended audience for this session is privacy officers and clinic administrators.
